About Strictly Wheels Foundation
Strictly Wheels Foundation was founded by Strictly Wheels Paula Moulton, and Gary Lyness after they began dancing and are now the UK's first and only top class Latin Wheelchair Dance Sport couple and compete for GB at IPC Level. They are passionate about wheelchair dancing and want to encourage as many people as possible to take up the sport either socially or go on to compete. Wheelchair Dance can be done either in combi style dancing with an able-bodied (standing) partner or duo style dancing for two wheelchair users together, so it's perfect for bringing everyone together. It's a fun activity for exercise and to improve motability and confidence and gives people a new skill that can be used in day to day life e.g. dancing along at social events with friends and family. The benefits of wheelchair dance include: Improving fitness and ability through exercise and dance. Improving self-confidence and self-esteem through participation Reducing social isolation through inclusion Increasing personal independence through better ability to use a wheelchair Funding ensures we can keep our classes FREE and to support upcoming dancers at a competitive level where there is no national funding for the sport.
